Looking for that perfect pattern for your next design project? Well look no further… Pattern Wall – brought to you by Caleb Kimbrough at Lost and Taken and Oscar Godson at Knee Deep In Code – has a great collection of patterns free for the taking to use on anything from a Twitter background to that rad new MySpace layout you’ve been working on for weeks – and anything else you can think of that requires a tiling background. While it may not be the largest collection of patterns you’ve ever seen, the interface is silky smooth and simple to use. Both of their blogs are great reads as well, so be sure to bookmark them for future reading…

Do yourself a favor and follow Caleb and Oscar on Twitter. While you’re at it, be sure to tell them thanks for solving all your pattern deficiencies!!

Often unnoticed, movie titles are (usually) a lost art. The Art Of The Title Sequence aims to give movie titles and their creators the credit they deserve.

With in-depth interviews with producers, directors, title-designers, animators and the such, Art Of The Title Sequence shines a light on many nuances of often overlooked — but necessary — pieces of movie greatness. Giving insight into otherwise unknown tidbits of information, you can learn a lot about the process and thought that goes into these works of art. Opening sequences have suddenly become more than just a few lonely text blocks fading in and out of the first few minutes – these featurettes are becoming epic novellas that tell their own story and give a peek into the upcoming motion picture you are about to witness.

Definitely one to add to your RSS readers, be sure to subscribe to their feed here and if email subscriptions are more your speed, you can find their link here. Well worth it, as this blog is quickly becoming one of my favorites – and I’m sure it will be one of yours as well. They also have a podcast which truth be told, I have yet to listen to – but if you care to do so, you can find that link here. And if Twitter is more your speed, you can find them over here.

Unfortunately, they do little to illustrate what would happen if Saul Bass were to design the opening credits of Star Wars. Luckily, I have the elite resources these people do not (read: YouTube) and I diligently searched for something for you. So without further adieu, I present to you…

The Photoshop® gods have finally answered the calls of the wild, untamed brush jungle!!

The Photoshop® gods have finally answered the calls of the wild, untamed brush jungle!! Actually, this great little app has nothing to do with the fine folks at Adobe – rather it’s from Mr. Jay Hilgert, better known as BittBox. As if providing us with endless amounts of free textures and brushes wasn’t enough, his latest effort is an app to keep things a bit organized. Brush Pilot is a very affordable $15 and can bring some sanity to your brush collection by providing scalable previews of all your brush collections. It will automatically find your brush folder and search out all of your collections, display them as only a Mac app could and also let you delete those crappy ones you downloaded and thought you would use .

Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I spent $15 and was so happy about it. Make like the wind and show Jay a little love over at http://www.brushpilotapp.com/. If your brush collection is even remotely like mine, you will be indebted forever!! Also, be sure to follow BittBox and Brush Pilot on Twitter.

if you are even remotely interested in information, data, facts and numbers – let me introduce you to nicholas felton – aka - feltron. not only is he obsessive with his info gathering, he has a way of graphically displaying it all in a beautiful, well organized and aesthetically pleasing way. working with graphics every day, i personally know how hard it is to keep data organized and also easy on the eyes at the same time. spend some time digesting the 2008 annual report (as well as the older ones) and you will find endless slices of data from his year. sounds boring? think again – it is wonderfully served up into interesting bite-sized pieces that rope you in. you can order his print versions for $5 if the on-screen experience just isn’t doin’ it for you. nicholas’ other project, daytum, will eventually allow you to start keeping track of your own life data, but i say eventually since it is still a closed, private beta at this time. nicholas, if you are reading this – drop me a line, i’d love to …ahem… check out daytum!

goodby, silverstein & partners gives us a plethora of information wrapped up into one graphic website for an onslaught of information. this site was created to promote sprint’s mobile broadband card and gives you data on everything from the number of homes being built at that moment, to the number of eggs being produced, to the current flights in the air, to… well you get it. tons of info you never thought you would need, yet somehow get hypnotized into watching. none of the data is made up and is all based off of real-time feeds and computational data. be sure to check it out. make sure you have some free time, you’ll need it!
